Examples of saddles found in a tackroom. Look at the narrow channels on these jumping
saddles. The tape measure indicates a ONE INCH gullet on the one saddle. This is
nowhere near that amount of room needed to place the saddle outside of the horse's
spine. These saddles, no matter how much padding is beneath them, will all impinge on
the horse's spine and on the paraspinal  ligaments. Check your own saddle. Can you get
at least 3-4 fingers ALL THE WAY through your saddle's channel? Many saddles dovetail
towards the end of the saddle, putting unnecessary pressure over the thoracolumbar
junction.
